Definition of 'Cutie Mark':
The My Little Pony franchise is famous for cutie marks, unique picture-like symbols located on the ponies' flanks or haunches. The term is a play on "beauty mark", and is reminiscent of quarter marks. The mark itself is positioned where livestock branding is usually performed. Cutie marks are often related to the personality, proclivity, or talent of the character.

After I thought about it for a while, I wondered, "Why do ponies have cutie marks?" I know very well what they are, and what they are meant to show, but, why? Back when the first show was launched in the 1980s, why did the creator give the ponies cutie marks? What was the point? Of course, some say that it may be because it would be easier to identify the pony, or to sort of see where their area is in their talent or whatever. I still want to know why they have them in the first place. I don't dislike it, I just don't understand the true point.
While I'm on the subject, why are all the ponies technicolored? Why weren't they originally normal horse colors, like brown, white, black, or with spots?
